Overall analysis and how this will help our documentary

What happened in Kavos overall analysis
Sound
I discovered that multiple interviews are used as well as a narration and vox-pops. These are present to enhance a documentary format in a conventional manner, we will seek to replicate a similar format for our documentary. There are also multiple diegetic sounds used, including sounds from night clubs, these are related to the subject of the documentary and the issues raised with a clubbing atmosphere. We have decided to try and use this information and develop it by using mobile phone related sounds such as mobile phones ringing.

Image
A wide range of images and camera shots are used to give a visual representation of what is being discussed. It varies from images related directly to what the narrator is saying to more general images which given information beyond what we are being told. In our documentary we are going to have a wide range of footage related to our narration such as people on mobile phones, however we are also going to get more footage of relevant ideas such as cars for the idea of drink driving.

Sound
Once again there are multiple interviews with the public and with experts. We will try and get expert interviews in our documentary to provide support for the ideas that we raise. There are a large amount of non-diegetic sounds used which add to the atmosphere of the documentary, we will not copy this to a large extent but there will be some sound effects added such as the ringing of phones. To follow conventions there is a narration providing speech over image, we will seek to replicate this and provide certain ideas for the viewers to approach.

Early on their are useful images which explains the basis of the documentary, we will follow this as we want our audience to know the intended meaning of our documentary. Once more there are multiple images of what the narrator is describing, this is stereotypical of documentaries and we will follow this convention. In the documentary pictures of victims are used, this allow us to become more personal with the characters discussed. We will not follow this to a large extent as we feel it is important for our audience to have their own views rather than having to have everything explained to them.

What Happens in Kavos

Before this task our knowledge on documentaries were limited, however after it we got an insight into what is classed as a typical documentary. Our documentary will have similar aspects, we took notes on how they edit and use the 'voice of God' technique. This will be applied to our documentary as we will aim to follow some conventions such as a voice over. Our target audience for this task was mixed as all we needed was conventions in similar documentaries.
